A Bringhurst man has been sentenced to three years in federal prison after pleading guilty to cyberstalking.

Caleb Bonnell, 20, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in South Bend to 36 months in prison, followed by two years of supervised release.

Federal prosecutors said Bonnell used electronic devices to harass and intimidate a victim and a member of the victim’s family between September and December 2025.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Bonnell sent hundreds of unwanted text messages, repeatedly emailed the victim’s school and sent more than 70 social media messages to the victim’s classmates. Prosecutors said he also posted a threatening statement about the victim online.

Bonnell was also accused of “swatting” the victim’s home by making false reports to law enforcement that prompted officers to respond to the residence.

U.S. Attorney Adam Mildred said the conduct terrorized the victim and the victim’s family member and represented a dangerous misuse of technology.
