Republican St. Joseph County Council candidate Jamie O’Brien is calling for a two-year moratorium on large-scale data centers.

O’Brien says the pause would give officials time to evaluate concerns about utility and water use, noise, traffic, and neighborhood impacts.

Four Republican council members support the proposal.

The county is already home to a Microsoft data center planned for Granger and a massive AWS campus under construction in New Carlisle.
