An Indianapolis woman faces felony charges after police say she pulled a gun on employees at a children’s store after they told her child to stop playing with a toy.
Tamya Staten faces charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon and pointing a firearm. A conviction on both charges could bring up to 8.5 years in prison.
IMPD officers responded July 16 to Once Upon a Child on East 86th Street after an employee activated a silent alarm.
Police say Staten brought her toddler to the store while she sold clothing. An employee then told Staten that children could not play with the store’s toys.
According to court documents, Staten became angry, pulled a handgun from her purse and threatened an employee. Police say she later pulled out the gun again and pointed it toward workers.
Staten then picked up her child and left the store.
Investigators used surveillance video, her license plate and an ID she gave employees to identify her.
