Man killed in Kosciusko County house fire identified

The man killed in a house fire near Claypool on Saturday, June 25, has been identified.

Crews from the Burket/Seward Fire Department were called to the home in the 8600 block of South Valentine Road, near Yellow Creek Lake, around 3 a.m. on Saturday, June 25.

On arrival, they found the home fully engulfed in flames.

The body of John D. Etchinson, 46, was found after fire crews were able to put the fire out.

Etchinson was identified by the use of dental comparisons on Sunday by Dr. Craig Nelson at the Northeast Forensic Center in Fort Wayne.

An autopsy on Etchinson’s body has been completed, but the results have not been released, pending lab results.

The blaze was appears to have been accidental in nature, according to the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.
