EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Evansville police say a 17-year-old was texting when he drove his truck off a highway, causing a collision that has left an officer facing a long recovery.

Police said Wednesday the truck drifted off Indiana 66 and onto a shoulder, where it struck the officer’s motorcycle and propelled it into the officer and a stalled minivan he was pushing off the highway.

Police say Officer Allen Gansman suffered several fractures to his legs. He underwent one surgery following the collision Tuesday and has more scheduled.

No charges have been filed. Police say an investigation is continuing.
