New warehouse could add three-dozen jobs in Elkhart

(Amanda Wilkinson/Elkhart Truth)

An Elkhart company is looking to expand their business and their workforce.

Kem Krest has filed paperwork with the Elkhart City Council to potentially construct a 200,000-square-foot warehouse, according to the Elkhart Truth.

The facility could be located next to their current location on Middleton Run Road, or it could be built in Michigan or Wisconsin. The $5.8 million project would expand the company’s ability to help companies manage their purchasing, marketing, and operating systems.

Kem Krest would also add 36 new employees, paying them an average wage of $18.31, with 19 of those employees working in production with an average wage of $13.70 an hour.

The Elkhart City Council will decide Thursday night whether the project qualifies for tax abatements. If built in Elkhart, several older homes in disrepair would have to be demolished.

Construction would be complete in March 2017.
