In an attempt to get commuters on the Indiana Toll Road to stop in Elkhart, the city’s hoping to make a splash for travelers.

A water park resort is being discussed at the North Pointe Plaza across from the Toll Road exit, according to WSBT.

The idea comes courtesy of a Chicago firm, who did a study to see if the property could hold a 120 store outlet mall. The property came up a bit short for that idea.

Elkhart Mayor Tim Neese then pitched up an idea to build an indoor hotel water park. It would be available for not just hotel members, but also the public, Neese told WSBT.

The firm seemed receptive to the idea and suggested it be modeled like a Great Wolfe Lodge, which has 14 locations nationwide. Neese feels it’d attract people from Ohio to Illinois and everywhere in between and would help make Elkhart a destination place for tourists.

The project is described as being in the discussion stage.
