Two teens are recovering from serious injuries after a car and semi collided.

The 19-year-old from New Carlisle and 18-year-old from LaPorte had to be extricated afterwards, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver reportedly crossed the center line and into the lane of an oncoming semi on U.S. 20. This happened about a quarter-mile west of the St. Joseph County line at about 6:20 a.m. Thursday.

Memorial MedFlight was initially called to the scene, but bad weather forced their helicopter to turn around. The two were taken via ambulance to Memorial Hospital.

The crash was cleaned up after 9 a.m. Thursday, almost three hours later. However, the road was shut down from C.R. 700 E to the St. Joseph County line during that time.

Both of the crash victims were wearing seatbelts, and that’s being credited by officials for saving their lives.

The car smashed into the semi… Not the other way around. Get the story correct.
