Former Roseland hotel is being demolished

It was once one of the largest hotels in St. Joseph County, and it’s coming down soon.

The owner of the shuttered Econo-Lodge in Roseland says it no longer makes financial sense to keep the building open, according to the South Bend Tribune.

JSK Hospitality, which owns the facility, says the number of new hotels under construction across the county have weighed into the decision. JSK plans to sell the 7-acre property after demolishing the structure, which closed earlier this month.

Construction finished on the Econo-Lodge in 1963 and was 22 thousand-square feet with 170 rooms. It sold in a foreclosure sale in 2012 and shrunk in size after renovations.

There’s no timeline set for the demolition of the building.
