South Bend food trucks still few in number despite ordinance allowing them

South Bend’s food truck ordinance is more than a year old, and yet there are very few of them operating in the city.

The South Bend Tribune says they’ve spoken with several food truck owners about their experiences.

They learned that several challenges kept the trucks from becoming too common of a sight, including the cost of necessary permits, the Smart Streets construction, and the fact that it seems to be a very seasonal venture best served in the spring and summer.

Six trucks were granted permits in 2016 in South Bend, but none of them have renewed for this year as of yet.
