The Indiana General Assembly has failed to pass legislation that would have prevented local communities from banning AirBNB and similar services.
Supports of protecting AirBNB in the state failed to get the required Constitutional majority after a 49 to 44 vote in the Indiana House, according to the Indy Star.
The legislation would have prevented local communities from banning residents from renting rooms in their homes.
The legislation became an issue in the city of Carmel after officials mailed warning letters in January to area homeowners active on AirBNB that they were violating city zoning laws and had 10 days to cease operations.
Groups like the Indiana Restaurant & Lodging Association opposed the bill.
