It was a murder-suicide in Elkhart.

That’s the ruling from the Elkhart County Coroner’s and Sheriff’s offices two days after 31-year-old Susana Alvarez and 38-year-old Albert Avelino were found dead of gunshot wounds to the head in a vehicle on Edgewood Drive.

Detectives say Alvarez was shot and killed, then Avelino turned the gun on himself. The decision was based on evidence on the scene, including the gun itself, and autopsies.

No suspects are being sought, and officers say there’s no threat to the community.

Alvarez and Avelino were in a long-term relationship and had five children. They lived in a mobile home about two blocks away from the vacant lot where the vehicle was found. Friends and family were concerned because the couple hadn’t been heard from since Friday evening, according to the Elkhart Truth.
