The driver of a vehicle involved in a crash in LaPorte County was arrested after police learned the vehicle was reported stolen out of Texas.

The collision happened just after 4 a.m., on Saturday, May 27.

The driver of the 2009 Ford Edge, Vienna Christine Ali, 34 of Carrollton, Texas, was traveling westbound on I-94 near the 41 mile marker, when she changed lanes, hit the rumble strips, over-corrected, then lost control of the vehicle and went into the grassy shoulder, according to Indiana State Police.

This caused the Ford to roll over multiple times.

Ali and her passenger, a 44-year-old man from Texas, were taken to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Michigan City with non-life threatening injuries, Indiana State Police reported.

Officers ran a computer check on the Edge’s license plate and learned it was reported stolen out of Texas on May 18, according to Indiana State Police.

Ali was released from the hospital and taken into custody and transported to the LaPorte County Jail and charged with auto theft, according to Indiana State Police.

The passenger was not charged.
