The South Bend Police Department is coming to the rescue of another department in Indiana.

The police department in Alexandria, near Indianapolis, is without a drug-detecting dog at the moment, and South Bend Police are hoping fill that void for their brother officers. According to the South Bend Tribune, the SBPD will donate a spare K9 vehicle to the town to replace their vehicle, which has broken down.

Chief Scott Ruszkowski made a request of the Board of Public Works on Tuesday to proceed with the donation, which would put Alexandria’s dog back on the streets, assisting in the crucial statewide effort to combat drugs.

K9 vehicles are specially designed to keep the animals safer and more secure than they would be in a standard car while on patrol with their human partners.
