LECO Plating in St. Joseph evacuated due to suspicious person on site

(Taylor Popielarz/ABC 57)

Employees at a manufacturing plant in St. Joseph had to be evacuated Wednesday after reports of a suspicious person on site.

The St. Joseph Department of Public Safety says it happened at about noon Wednesday at one of the Leco Corporation buildings. There was NOT an active shooter situation as early reports had rumored.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Unit did a sweep of the building to make sure it was safe and secure. No injuries have been reported, nor are there any reports of criminal activity or work place violence.

The suspect has been located outside of the county.
