Guided historical tours being added to some South Shore departures

If you’ve wanted to learn about the history of the South Shore Line and the various landmarks it passes, you’ll get your chance this summer.

The American Passenger Rail Heritage Foundation will be hosting onboard educational programs on select Saturday departures starting in August. Interpretive guides be on board for eastbound departures from Millennium Station at 8:40 a.m. CT on August 5, August 26, September 9, September 23, October 21, and October 28. They’ll also be available on those same dates for westbound passengers leaving South Bend starting at 1:05 p.m. ET. More dates for the fall and winter may be announced soon.

Live informative narration from volunteer interpretive guides will present information on historic landmarks along the track, including the Indiana Dunes, the steel mills in northwest Indiana, and more.

There’s no extra charge for taking part in these narrations.
