Man killed in crash on Cassopolis Street in Elkhart

A 59-year-old man was killed in a crash in the area of Cassopolis Street and Grove Court in Elkhart.

The collision happened just after 8 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 11, according to the Elkhart Police Department.

The mini-van was southbound on Cassopolis Street, left the roadway, struck the fire hydrant and utility pole causing it to roll over to the driver side.

First responders had to force entry into the vehicle at which time the found the driver dead at scene.

Drug and alcohol do not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
