A Brazilian judge will deliver the commencement address at Notre Dame next year.
Sergio Moro is one of the leaders in Brazil’s anti-corruption movement. The South Bend Tribune reports that he has gained notoriety in his country for sentencing powerful Brazilian political figures and the business leaders they’re tied to on corruption charges.
In fact, he sentenced former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to nearly 10 years in prison after an investigation into Brazil-controlled oil company Petrobras.
Judge Moro received the Notre Dame Award earlier this month during a ceremony in Brazil. Commencement will be May 20th next year in Notre Dame Stadium.
