Sparks on South Shore train Sunday night causes havoc for passengers

Sparks flew on a South Shore train bound for South Bend, and interrupted service late Sunday night.

The South Shore says an overhead wire issue was to blame, with those sparks being accompanied by a small explosion.

An official told WSBT that they’re unsure what caused the problem, and won’t know more until they are able to perform a complete diagnostic check of the car in question.

As many as 25 passengers were in the car at the time, and no one was injured. They were able to board buses and were taken to their destinations.

Train 102 between Carroll Avenue and Ogden Dunes was impacted but all other trains were running normally on the line Monday morning.
