Teen arrested following South Bend shooting Thursday

An 18-year-old has been arrested for allegedly shooting another man in the face during a robbery attempt.

South Bend Police announced that Jermaine Newsome was arrested after the incident in the area of Elmer and Keller on the northwest side of South Bend. He’s charged with attempted robbery, battery with a deadly weapon resulting in serious bodily injury and other warrants.

The victim, a 19-year-old man, is expected to recover despite being shot in the face. Police say Newsome was tracked down just 30 minutes after the shooting after the victim was able to help officers.
