A domestic dispute resulted in a shooting in Leesburg.

A 20-year-old Columbia City man had to be taken to Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital for treatment after the incident at the Leesburg Gravel Pit east of S.R. 15 Sunday night.

Police say a man battered a 20-year-old woman, resulting in the woman being injured. Their vehicle then became stuck and family came to help shortly after 5 p.m.

But, it didn’t end there.

When a 70-year-old relative showed up, multiple people became involved in a physical fight. The 20-year-old man took a knife from the 70-year-old and threatened to harm himself.

That’s when the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department says the 70-year-old shot the 20-year-old in the left upper leg with a .357 revolver.

Possible charges are pending with the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office.
