Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a crash involving a pedestrian.

The collision happened around 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 25,  on Interstate 80 at the 1.5 mile marker on the westbound side, according to the Indiana State Police.

A vehicle being driven by a 58-year-old woman from Chicago struck and killed Freeman Pace, 44, of West Lafayette, who was walking in the roadway, the state police reported.

The crash stemmed from a domestic incident that occurred on I-80 shortly before the crash. The husband and wife in the vehicle stopped on the outside shoulder and got out of the vehicle. They then walked across the interstate on foot crossing to the inside shoulder before beginning to attempt to cross back to the outside shoulder. In doing so, Pace was struck by the vehicle, the state police reported.
