Police: Man found dead on County Road 52 led officers on pursuit days earlier

The man found dead near a home in the 15000 block of County Road 52 on Friday, Feb. 15, has been identified.

The death of Myles Owens, 28, has been ruled accidental by the Elkhart County Coroner.

The investigation showed that Owens was the suspect in a vehicle pursuit that had occurred on Feb. 9, where Elkhart County Sheriff’s officers attempted to stop him for speeding.

The officers lost sight of the vehicle and located it later abandoned in a field.

After a search failed to locate Owens, officers left the scene and impounded the vehicle.

The Noble County Sheriff’s Office made contact with Elkhart County Sheriff’s officers on February 13th, 2019, after Owens had been reported missing.

Officer returned to the area and conducted searches using an unmanned arial vehicle and searched a pond using an underwater unmanned vehicle but failed to locate Owens.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is continuing an investigation into Owens death.
