Fight over money leads to deadly stabbing, arrest in Benton Harbor

One man was killed in an apparent stabbing in Benton Harbor and another man has been arrested in connection with the death.

Officers with the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety were called to the 100 block of Lake Street around 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, where they found Sylvester Booth, 56, in the basement of a home with a stab wound to his chest.

A suspect was immediately identified and taken into custody.

Jerry Lee Osler, 59, and Booth were roommates. The stabbing stemmed from a fight about miney. over money, police stated.

Booth was stabbed as many as 5 days prior to police finding him, according to Osler’s alleged confession, as reported by Benton Harbor investigators.

Osler is in custody in the Berrien County Jail.
