A man who pled guilty to charges of leaving the scene of an accident after a fatal collision in Mishawaka will serve 5 years in jail.

On Thursday, March 28, Vincent Hunter Jr., 26, was given that sentence for the crash on East McKinley that killed 50 year-old Lester Horrall.

The collision happened on February 14. The next day, a detective with the St. Joseph County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team received a call from an Elkhart police officer that vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle was located at an apartment complex in Elkhart.

The vehicle had damage consistent with the crash.

Hunter, who owns the vehicle, admitted he was involved in the crash and failed to remain at the scene. Hunter told police he was driving eastbound on McKinley Avenue near Filbert.

He stated that at one point, he struck something. However, he claimed that he was not sure what it was, the probable cause affidavit stated.

The first two years Hunter serves will be in state prison. The final three years will be served with St. Joseph County Corrections.
