Two arrested following police chase through Berrien County, third suspect still on the run

Two men were arrested in Berrien County early Tuesday morning after attempting to evade police.

Just after 12:30 a.m., a Buchanan City Police Officer attempted to stop a black Jeep Cherokee with a temporary license plate.

Instead of stopping, the Jeep drove southbound on Bakertown Road and officers lost sight of the vehicle.

A little while later, a Berrien County officer spotted the vehicle traveling westbound on US 12 near Dayton Lake Road. The officer attempted another traffic stop, but the vehicle headed westbound through Galien and Three Oaks.

The Jeep eventually struck stop sticks set up on US 12 near Lakeside Road, which caused the tires to deflate. The vehicle then struck a sign post on US 12 near I-94.

Three suspects fled on foot; two of them were found hiding in thick vegetation. They were arrested and identified as Chamaine Davis, 25 of Chicago, and Calvin Edwards, 20 of Chicago.

Both Davis and Edwards had felony warrants for their arrest out of Cook County, Illinois. They were booked into the Berrien County Jail and are facing charges of Fleeing and Eluding Police, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and No Valid Operator’s license.

The third suspect was not found during the search.

The vehicle was found to be reported stolen from Highland Park, Illinois. When police searched the Jeep they found suspected burglary tools hidden under a blanket in the trunk.
