Police: Speed, no seatbelts, factors in serious injury crash in Howard Township

Three people were hurt when a 17-year-old Niles boy lost control of the vehicle he was driving and struck a tree.

The collision happened around 4:20 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, on Anderson Road south of Yankee Street in Howard Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

The teen had two juvenile passengers in the vehicle and one was ejected.
All three occupants were taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment of their injuries.

Seat belts were not worn and speed appears to be a factor, the sheriff’s department reported.
