The Indiana BMV’s proposal for a rule allowing people to change their listed gender on driver’s licenses and IDs met some resistance yesterday.
A number of Hoosiers showed up at a public hearing Monday in Indianapolis to speak against the proposed rule, which changes the process for those who want a non-binary choice on their driver’s license, for various reasons.
The Journal Gazette reports some opposed it for religious reasons, but others opposed it because it adds an additional step and another form to fill out. LGBTQ activists say it unfairly targets transgender people.
The BMV has received hundreds of comments on the proposed rule change, and virtually all of them are against it.
