Governor Whitmer is asking the president to authorize more time to use the Michigan National Guard to fight the coronavirus in the state.

She wrote a letter Wednesday asking Trump to extend the use of the Guard through July 31.

Whitmer thanked the president for authorizing the Michigan National Guard through June 24, but said there’s much more work to be done to both respond to the crisis, and recover from it.

Guard units have assisted food banks in the state, helped move medical supplies, and even assisted with the running of mobile testing facilities. Whitmer believes their continued help is vital to Michigan’s economic recovery, as well.
