Niles vet facing charges after dead animals found in trailer

A veterinarian in Niles is facing charges after animal carcasses were found on his property. Dr. Loren Brandt is facing a total of 10 misdemeanor charges after a tree service worker noticed a foul smell on his property, notified police, and they found nearly a dozen dead and decomposing animals in a trailer.

Inside the trailer was six dogs, four cats, and a horse that was decomposed down to the dry bones, according to ABC 57. Dr. Brandt owns the River Valley Equine & Small Animal Clinic, and told reporters that originally the animals were supposed to be buried on his property.

Officials are looking into if this is an isolated incident, or if there is further evidence that Brandt had failed to properly dispose of animal remains before
