Gov. Whitmer says COVID-19 rate falling, no word about restaurant reopenings

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer says COVID-19 case rates continue to fall in the midst of the temporary partial shutdown.

During Whitmer’s news conference on Tuesday, Dec. 15, she didn’t mention any sort of lift of the closures affecting restaurants. When asked about when they could reopen, she responded by saying the best help restaurant owners and workers could receive should come in the form of an aid package approved by the state legislature.

Whitmer has previously said that when the shutdown begins to lift, getting high school students would be first on the list, followed by reopening entertainment venues such as casinos, bowling alleys and movie theaters.

Re-opening restaurants to indoor dining would be last.

She didn’t mention any sort of timeline of when any of the tiered reopening would begin.
