Michigan legislators seek a ban on mandatory COVID vaccinations

Michigan’s House of Representatives has voted to ban publicly-funded entities from requiring COVID vaccinations.

The preemptive ban on government-backed coronavirus vaccine passports seeks to block government entities from creating or requiring the vaccines. That includes any entity that is primarily funded by tax dollars, including schools and universities.

Some of the state’s public universities — including The University of Michigan — have announced their intention to require students to provide proof of vaccination or receive an approved exemption to live in on-campus housing.

The bill now advances to the Senate.
