Citizen’s tip leads to OWI arrest of Watervliet woman on U.S. 31 in Miami County

A citizen’s tip led to the arrest of a Watervliet woman on U.S. 31 in Miami County.

Ashley Imler, 32, was incarcerated in the Miami County Jail for a felony charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction.

Around 8:10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 20, a driver called 911 to report a Dodge Magnum driving erratically, with its emergency flashers activated, on U.S. 31, according to Indiana State Police.

Officers located the Dodge traveling southbound near Miami County Road 300 North.

The Dodge was tracked allegedly traveling 81 miles per hour in a posted 60 miles per hour zone, with flashers activated. An officer with the Peru Police Department and an Indiana State Police Captain stopped the Dodge near County Road 200 North.

The officers detected the smell of alcohol emitting from the vehicle and noticed signs of intoxication from Imler, who was behind the wheel.

She allegedly failed a standard field sobriety tests. Further investigation revealed Imler’s blood alcohol concentration was .18 which is over the limit of .08 in which a driver is considered intoxicated in Indiana.

Imler was also issued citations for speeding and operating a motor vehicle with an open alcohol container.
