Testing of the water in nearly 300 Benton Harbor homes will begin soon by officials from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

They will be checking the certified filters given to residents by state officials to remove lead from their drinking water.

According to WSBT, EPA officials will go to homes this week to collect samples from the water that goes through the filter. In addition they will collect samples of the water without filters.

Officials say testing could last several weeks.

This comes after the federal agency ordered Benton Harbor to fix problems at the plants.

Additionally the order from the agency includes analysis of whether ownership of the water plant should be transferred from the city.
