South Bend’s Mayor has rescinded the city’s local disaster emergency with an executive order.

Mayor Mueller issued the order on Friday, ending the declaration that has been in place as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic for nearly two years. He declared a local disaster emergency on March 19 of 2020.

The St. Joseph County Health Department said Friday the 7-day average of new cases had moved to 72.2 per 100,000 residents, and the 7-day average of percent positivity was at 5.5%.

The mayor said “it’s time to move on from this emergency,” and encouraged all residents to get fully vaccinated and boosted to stay ahead of future variants.
