St. John officer fires shots at off duty Hammond officer

A St. John Police officer opened fire on a driver, who he says almost hit him.

It happened Tuesday, November 28, around 2:30 a.m., when the officer was standing on the shoulder of the road with a flashlight.

He says that a vehicle almost hit him and he fired shots at the vehicle, fearing for his life.

The driver, an off-duty Hammond police officer driving his personal car, says that he moved toward the shoulder of the road to make space at a traffic stop.

The Times of Northwest Indiana reports that the St. John officer has been placed on administrative leave as the Lake County Sheriff’s Office investigates.
