The South Bend teen charged with attempted murder last year has now been sentenced to 18 years for a lesser crime.

It was in March of 2022 when 17-year-old Taron Branch Jr. reportedly opened fire into a teenage girl’s bedroom on Irvington Ave.

 The girl was shot multiple times but survived the attack.

 Branch Jr. was originally charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery, battery by means of a deadly weapon, and residential entry.

 However, Branch was waived into adult court and agreed to plead guilty to the aggravated battery count as well as a felony firearms enhancement charge.

The other counts were dismissed, and Branch was sentenced to 18 years in the Indiana Department of Correction.
