Police: Driver takes off leaving injured passenger behind after crash in Cass County

A driver took off from the scene of a crash, leaving behind a passenger who was hurt.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8, near Flanders Street and Twin Lakes Road in Cass County.

Deputies arrived on scene and made contact with the injured passenger, identified as a 63-year-old Dowagiac resident.

The driver had left the scene, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Their investigation indicated the vehicle had turned east off of Twin Lakes Road and appeared to have lost control due to speed.

The passenger fell from the vehicle before it struck a tree.

The passenger was taken to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac for treatment of their injuries.
