A correctional officer is in jail after being accused of smuggling marijuana into the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City.

According to court documents, 38-year-old Janise Clark of South Bend was reporting for her shift on Sunday when another staff member noticed her plastic-wrapped sandwich looked suspicious. An x-ray scan revealed nearly half a pound of marijuana hidden between the slices of bread.

Clark admitted during questioning that she had brought marijuana and tobacco into the prison multiple times, receiving over $20,000 for the contraband.

An investigation is ongoing to identify all involved parties. Clark is being held at LaPorte County Jail on a $15,000 bond, charged with trafficking with an inmate and bribery.
