A Michigan City woman may be facing significant prison time after her infant son died of starvation.
21-year-old Shianne Gramlin’s 9-week-old son died in April, though charges against Gramlin were not filed until an autopsy ruled he died of starvation from malnourishment.
Gramlin reportedly told investigators that she had been diagnosed with a deficiency in her breast milk, and she said she had an appointment with a doctor to see about switching the infant to formula.
However, she reportedly told investigators she waited over a week for the appointment rather than taking the baby to be seen by a doctor for earlier attention.
Police say the child died soon after arriving at the hospital. Gramlin has been charged with Neglect of a Dependent Causing Death and could face anywhere from a 20 to 40 year sentence.
