Former South Bend Police Chief Darryl Boykins passes away

The South Bend Police Department has announced the passing of former Chief of Police, Darryl Boykins.

Boykins served the city and department for approximately 30 years.

During his time as a South Bend Police Officer, he served as a patrolman, K9 handler, detective and was appointed to the role of Police Chief in December of 2007.

He also played an integral role in creating and promoting the South Bend Police Athletic League.

Boykins passed away on Friday. He was 70 years old.
