The City of South Bend is working to turn the former Drewrys Brewery site into a residential development.
The property has been vacant for decades and cleanup efforts have been happening for years.
City officials are working to rezone the land to allow for mixed residential housing with hopes of bringing new life into the Portage Elwood neighborhood.
They’re looking to rezone the 14-acre site to U3 Urban Neighborhood with plans to enhance property values and attract more residents. However, some have voiced concerns about rising rents.
South Bend’s Common Council will discuss and vote on the rezoning proposal Monday evening.
