Nicotine pouches and vapes are among the targets for new taxes by Michigan’s Governor.

Governor Whitmer’s office says her $83.5 billion budget plan aims to lower costs by continuing funding for free preschool, school meals, scholarships and more. She has proposed taxing non-tobacco nicotine products in the state the same as cigars or chewing tobacco. E-cigarettes, vaping pod systems, vape pens and nicotine pouches would be affected by the budget plan that will be considered in the next few months.

Bridge Michigan reports that Whitmer is also asking lawmakers to consider a rise in landfill taxes, which she believes could discourage trash imports from other states and raise 80 million dollars for cleanups.
