Representative Rudy Yakym, along with other reps, introduced the Brake for Kids Act this week.

The act requires the Department of Transportation to release a PSA on the dangers of illegally passing stopped school buses.

Indiana has a tragic history with incidents happening due to drivers attempting to pass stopped buses. In a study completed in 2024, more than 24 percent of participants reported that they did not know that it was illegal to pass a stopped school bus.

The Brake for Kids Act would allow for TV and radio ads to educate and remind drivers of the law.

The National School Transportation Association strongly supports the act and believes the bill will finally make changes for the safety of kids getting on and off school buses.
