One charged after allegedly crashing into building, injuring pedestrian

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office charged Gregory Michael Durling, 38, of South Bend, with four counts stemming from the April 12 vehicular collision that occurred at the intersection of Mishawaka Avenue and Longfellow Avenue, that severely injured a juvenile pedestrian.
The crash occurred Sunday afternoon.
After reviewing the evidence, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office has formally charged Durling with four counts:
Count I: Causing Serious Bodily Injury When Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, a Level 5 felony
Count II: Causing Serious Bodily Injury When Operating a Vehicle with a Schedule I or II Substance in the Blood, a Level 5 felony
Count III: Criminal Recklessness, a Level 6 felony
Count IV: Criminal Mischief, A Class B Misdemeanor
The sentencing range for a level 5 felony is 1-6 years with a maximum fine of $10,000. The sentencing range for a level 6 felony is 6 months to 2½ years with a maximum fine of $10,000.00. The sentencing range for a Class B misdemeanor is up to 6 months with a maximum fine of $1,000.
A judicial officer found that there was Probable Cause and charges were filed. Durling is currently in custody at the St. Joseph County Jail. He will be arraigned on April 16 at 1 p.m.
