Two dogs died in a house fire on South Bend’s west side.
South Bend Fire crews were called to the 1200 block of Fremont Street just after 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, and discovered three dogs inside the home. Firefighters and medics were able to revive a third dog.
Medics treated the surviving pet for more than 20 minutes, providing oxygen and water until the South Bend Animal Resource Center arrived. Officials said the dog’s condition had greatly improved by the time it was turned over to SBARC staff.
No people were injured in the fire, which was brought under control within 10 minutes. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
