A 22-year-old Cassopolis man has been sentenced after firing shots into a Dowagiac neighborhood earlier this year.
Jayunte Franklin, 22, pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed weapon and was sentenced in Cass County Circuit Court to 30 days in jail and 18 months of probation under the Holmes Youthful Training Act. He must also pay $2,600 in fines and costs.
The March incident happened in the 200 block of East Wayne Street in Dowagiac. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
Franklin’s attorney said he has no prior record, took responsibility, and cooperated with investigators.
Leader Publications reports if he successfully completes probation, the charge won’t appear on his record.
