Ex-IU captain charged in basketball scam

A father in Carmel says he paid nearly $50,000 to former Indiana University basketball star Todd Leary, trusting him with his son’s basketball training and an AAU team that never existed.
Prosecutors say Leary, a former IU team captain under Bob Knight and later a radio announcer, kept asking for more money instead of delivering coaching or forming a team.
Court records show the father first paid $3,000 for training, then $5,000 for a “lifetime” deal, and another $5,000 to build an AAU team Leary claimed would compete under Indiana Elite.
Police say no team was ever registered.
