The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is investigating a deadly shooting in South Bend.

On Saturday, Dec. 20, around 9:10 p.m., a South Bend Police Officer was responding to an unrelated call when he heard nearby gunfire. Officers then received a ShotSpotter notification in the 500 block of W. Indiana Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located 26-year-old Raejaun Jones of South Bend near Indiana Avenue and Taylor Street, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Jones was ultimately pronounced dead.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation by the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit.
