A St. Joseph County councilman will remain on the ballot for re-election.

Dan Schaetzle has been approved to run for another term in 2026.

A legal challenge from GOP member Griffin Nate claimed Schaetzle should not be eligible to run as a Republican after making a leadership agreement with the council’s Democratic minority last year.

A judge rejected that challenge.

Schaetzle will now appear on the May primary ballot.
